A.S.S. was established in 2012 as a not for profit school at Akosombo by Miss Sheilla Darpoh with the aim to care for special needs children especially in the eastern part of the country and also to serve as an Autism Awareness Hub which provides information, support and assistance to parents of children with disabilities.
At the Akosombo special school our focus is to care an infant who is hard to hold. A toddler who doesn’t wave”bye bye” or bring toys to show her parents or whose speech is delayed. A child whose disruptive behavior causes problems in the home and at school. A child who is just”different” from other children and has a hard time making friends and feels left out as a result.
We believe the world can be a frightening and frustrating place for a child with development issues. Whether you are the parent, teacher, therapist or health care provider of such a child, Akosombo Special School offers you an excellent resource for evaluation, diagnosis, advocacy and support.
Akosombo special school is proud to be affiliated with the Autism Awareness Care and Training Centre (AACT) in Accra, Ghana.
